Gaining Access with Carolyn Cole and Todd Heisler
Register for this one-day, intimate workshop to gain hands-on experience in getting access to subjects and stories quickly. Using their years of professional experience, photojournalists Carolyn Cole and Todd Heisler will guide you through this process.

Throughout the day you will get the chance to:

- Hear Cole and Heisler share stories about their experiences in the field
- Gain hands-on experience working with a subject
- Receive personalized advice from two award-winning photojournalists as you work
- Have your work from the day reviewed by Cole and Heisler
- Meet other supportive and passionate documentary photographers
- Eat amazing Mexican food from our favorite neighborhood restaurant!

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

9:00AM After settling in with coffee, tea and donuts, students will introduce themselves.
9:15AM Todd or Carolyn will show some of his or her work and share experiences and advice.
10:00AM Story ideas will be passed out (at random) to students.
10:15AM Students go out into the field to shoot for two hours, while guided by Cole and Heisler.
12:00PM Lunch at Xochimilco, our favorite neighborhood restaurant!
1:30PM Todd or Carolyn will show some of his or her work and share experiences and advice.
2:00PM Students revisit their subjects for two more hours to finish up their stories.
4:00PM Students will work together in groups to quickly edit their work.
5:00PM Students will present their work to the class and instructors for final feedback.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Cost: The workshop costs $300 for professionals and $250 for students who are currently enrolled in classes for the fall.

There are two scholarship places available for Bronx residents; if you are interested in applying for this position, please send a cover letter detailing how this workshop would benefit you to info@bronxdoc.org.

What to Bring: All students will need to bring a digital camera and should know how to operate it. If you do not have access to a camera but would still like to register for the workshop, please contact us at info@bronxdoc.org and we can work something out.

Cancellation Policy: No refunds if canceling within 7 days of the workshop. Cancellations before the 7 day period will receive a refund of the registration price not including Brown Paper Ticket's additional service fee.
