What is The Harmonica Pocket?
When The Harmonica Pocket takes the stage, audiences don't just sit back to be entertained. The show delivers highly-interactive experiences that get children (and their grownups) singing and moving in their seats.
With swinging story-songs, hula hoops, and a suitcase of props, The Harmonica Pocket mixes up Music, Dance, and Imagination Games into a gigglish jambalaya. Audiences are invited to become a tree on a windy day, flex creative writing skills by dreaming up lyrics to songs, and make hilarious sounds as they toss around an imaginary "Ball of Nothing."
The acoustic show is sprinkled with wah-wah guitar, ukulele, jaw harp, percussion, harmonicas, and an invented instrument called a "Hinklehorn" part kazoo, part plumbing fixtures. Shows with the full band fill out larger stages with stand up bass, drum set, and saxophone. Zany skits, dance, hula hoop, spinning flags, and a waltz with a pumpkin (in season) wrap each Harmonica Pocket show up with a thoughtful, playful bow.
Themed shows they offer include"A is for Apple," "Get Loose with Dr. Seuss," "Singing Thanksgiving," and "U is for Ukulele" and contain gentle ecological and literacy messages.
The Harmonica Pocket also offers Songwriting, Hula Hooping, and Movement workshops.
The Harmonica Pocket has performed for busloads of children and adults in theaters, classrooms, libraries, clubs, and festivals nationally and internationally. Their 2012 release Apple Apple is a winner of a Parents' Choice Gold Award. Put on a funny hat and come find out what everybody is smiling about.
We will have additional guests such as clowns, balloon artistry, face painting, carnival games (bring cash for those) plus safety awareness from the fire department. The poison control center will be introducing Mr. Yuk stickers and educational materials.
