A Deeper Dive: Exploring the Complicated Connections of Racial Justice and Climate Justice and Corresponding Pathways for Action
This workshop led by Dr Heather Hackman (www.hackmanconsultinggroup.org) is a continuation of the conversation regarding the essential need to do climate justice work from a racial justice (and class and gender justice) lens. More specifically, this session addresses three specific areas:
- Deepening the analysis of the interconnection between race, racism and whiteness and climate disruption,
- Providing frameworks for assessing the effectiveness of current practices with respect to racial (and class and gender) justice issues,
- Learning (and potentially sharing) concrete tools for incorporating a racial justice lens into climate justice activism.
Due to time constraints, this session cannot possibly provide "answers" to these questions, and instead offers participants a place to start this work in their own life and their activism, questions to ask in order to further their growth process, and basic steps to take/actions to implement in order to do climate justice work from a racial justice perspective.
The session is both content driven and interactive and thus participants will be expected to both critically reflect and openly engage with each other throughout the day.
