The New Budapest Orpheum Society Plays 1900s European Jewish Cabaret
The New Budapest Orpheum Society is an Ensemble-in-Residence in the Humanities Division at the University of Chicago. The ensemble draws upon a wide range of repertories, many forgotten, others preserved in European archives, all bearing witness to the great tradition of Jewish cabaret. Blending cabaret and political songs from the turn of the twentieth century, the troupe explores original materials in Hebrew, Yiddish, and German. This unique performance includes a commemorative piece about Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass).
This concert is made possible by the Sidney and Sarah Mogul Concert Fund of the Beth Emet Foundation and the Beth Emet Spiritual Music Fund
