"Victorious Songs of the African-American Experience"
Songs bring back to life major moments, feelings, times, and places. Tami Tyree, Artistic Director and Founder of Echoes of Our Ancestors, a history program that uses music to tell the story of African-Americans, has queried members of her Harlem community and beyond, to create a performance repertoire of songs important to black Americans. This concert will include music from slavery to Civil Rights, and will feature well loved songs of struggle, strength, resilience, failure, and triumph--and musically, no stone will be left un- turned.  Ms. Tyree's passionate delivery of spirituals, gospel, blues, and jazz, along with the essential songs of pop/r&b,round out a recital of music destined to peak all your emotions. The "Victorious Songs..."  program is the first of a series in order to cover so many songs she considers essential. Come for this inaugural concert to the hear the tunes that topped her list!  The Echoes of Our Ancestors band consists of versatile players well-known on the NYC jazz/blues/gospel scene: Rudi Mwongozi-piano, Booker King- bass, and Jonathon Peretz- drums.
