Bellport Playcrafters presents: How the Other Half Loves
How the Other Half Loves, by Alan Ayckbourn, centers around the lives of three couples: Frank and Fiona Foster, played by Peter Morrison and Amelia Chiaramonte; Bob and Teresa Phillips, played by Bryan McGowan and Flo Federman; and William and Mary Detweiler, played by Matt Pernice and Claire Parella-Curran.
Both Bob and William work at Frank's company; Bob is having an affair with Frank's wife, Fiona.
The conflict arises when Frank and Teresa become suspicious of the doings of their respective spouses who have been out until all hours. And when questioned Bob tells Teresa that he was out with William who is convinced Mary is having an affair and Fiona tells Frank that she ran into Mary who is devastated by the idea that William has another woman. None of this is true, of course, but for the time being it helps placate suspicions.
Because William is coming into his department, Frank has invited the Detweilers to dinner in the spirit of fostering workplace camaraderie and Teresa, who is always looking to help people, invites the Detwilers to dinner to help patch up what she thinks is a marriage on the rocks.
Uproarious chaos erupts from the fact that the dinner parties, although held on a Thursday and a Friday, are staged simultaneously with great comic effect.
As with most farces, things all work out for the better, but perhaps, not as one would expect in How the Other Half Loves.
