Living Pictures: Deepening Comprehension & Assessment Through Drama
Stonington Opera House Stonington, ME
This in-depth workshop focuses on a creative, controlled, low-risk drama technique known as tableau. It helps students apply and expand their knowledge and understanding in subjects across the curriculum by asking them to take on the roles of people or objects to create living pictures. In session one, participants learn how to build students vocabulary, focus, and concentration required for this work. In session two, participants learn how to use text that students are required to read, as a springboard to create living pictures. These tableaus help students examine the meaning of the text passages and provide teachers with instant assessment of student comprehension of specific facts, concepts, or big ideas. The engaging process deepens reading comprehension, models differentiated instruction, and motivates all types of learners.
