"Bernard & Julia" Dinner in the Country
Chef Bernard's menu for this evening is inspired by Julia Child's cookbook and the success of the recent movieÂJulie & Julia.
Le Vichyssois offers the kind of dining experience Julia Child would have appreciated. Chef Bernard Cretier favors richly flavored, silken-textured sauces and pureed soupsÂ and butter. Absolutely no shortcuts are taken in the kitchen. Charming dining rooms are decorated with framed paintings and antique furnishings, reminiscent of countryside inns found in France.
Le Vichyssois was opened in 1976 by Priscilla and Chef Cretier, a native of Vichy, France. The Chef had apprenticed under Jean & Pierre Troisgros in Roanne; worked for Paul Bocuse in Lyon and was personal chef to Secretary of State Billotte. Following his military service, Bernard worked at Maxim's in Paris for 4 years. He came to Chicago to take the position of Executive Chef at Maxim's de Paris for 6 years before opening his French country inn in Lakemoor.
