Chuckanut Radio Hour with Special Guest Steven Galloway, The Confabulist
Our special guest this month is Steven Galloway, author of The Cellist of Sarajevo, discussing his new book, The Confabulist, a fictionalized tale of the extraordinary life and sudden death of Harry Houdini. The book weaves the story of Martin Strauss, an ordinary man whose fate seems forever tied to that of the legendary magician. At once entertaining and suspenseful, historically rich and cleverly told, The Confabulist is a tale of magic and memory, truth and illusion, and the ways that love, hope and grief can, for better or for worse, alter what we perceive and believe. Steven Galloway lives in British Columbia and teaches creative writing at the University of British Columbia. The Cellist of Sarajevo, was long-listed for the 2008 Scotiabank Giller Prize, and winner of the 2009 Evergreen Award, the George Ryga Award for Social Awareness in Literature, as well as the Borders Original Voices Award. It was adopted by One City, One Read and Freshman Year Experience programs across the country.
