Featuring performances by three of the Bay Area's hottest bands!
6pm B O N E S O F A F E A T H E R Imagine Janis Joplin meets Marie Callas, with a hint of Alanis Morissette and Chaka Khan thrown in and you begin to get close to the vocal power of lead singer and guitarist, Julie Indelicato!. Julie's magnificent pipies are backed by a super tight band featuring members Emma Hyatt - Drums, Mood, Heartbeat; Suyá Nascimento - Vox, Licks, Attitude; Sarah Mobarekeh - Keys, Horns, Atmosphere; and Jay-Marie Hill - Bass, Sax, Soul, and Swag. BOAF passionately delivers gorgeous rock, r&b, and pop covers like you've never heard them before. Don't miss this group's first time performing at Leo's!
5pm M E N T A L 9 9 Come and experience the expertly delivered lush instrumental rock originals and covers from San Francisco duo, guitarist Joe Gore [Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, Tracy Chapman, Maryanne Faithfull, Eels, DJ Shadow, Courtney Love] and drummer Dawn Richardson [Four Non-Blondes, Tracy Chapman, Martinis, Angel Corpus Christi]. While Joe and Dawn use no prerecorded backing tracks, they employ "live looping" recording passages of music as they perform them, and then improvising new layers over them. The result is a breathtaking and powerful labyrinth of ear candy for your soul.
4pm S N O W A N G E L
Invoking feelings of love, nostalgia and hopeful possibility, Snow Angel makes an impression that could melt the most cynical of hearts. There is no denying the power of this punky super group featuring Gabby La La on electric sitar, Pamela Parker on Guitar, Arianne Cap on Bass, Cadence Myles on Guitar, Michael Scott Jacobs on Drum, and Maya Carina on keys! Reminiscent of classic Cyndi Lauper and Jem and the Holograms, Snow Angel tops off every song with spell casting harmonies to create a rockin' dream pop sound from the heart.
Snow Angel is the brainchild of Gabby La La, who is most famous for touring with Les Claypool's Fancy Band. Claypool also produced and released La La's first album "Be Careful What You Wish For..." on his record label.
Come and listen to Gabby La La who has been heralded as one of the most talented and creative multi instrumentalists this side of the Emerald City. After years of studying the Sitar with maestro Ali Akbar Khan and earning a degree in North Indian Classical Music from CalArts, La La got her start as a member of Les Claypool's band. In 2005, Claypool released La La's first solo album on his record label and she has gone on to release two more full albums and EPs as both Gabby La La and Snow Angel. Check out this dream pop group that delivers delicious shoe gazing yumminess with a punky edge!
And don't miss day 1 of the Transcedent Art & Music Party, happening at Oakland's Temescal Arts Center!
