The Sweepers
The Sweepers takes place in a very small world of five characters seen interacting in a quaint courtyard between apartment buildings, the play takes place in New York during the closing months of World War II. The Sweepers is plentiful in laughs accompanied with a gut-wrenching emotional wallop. The characters Bella, Dotty, and Mary are Italian-American working class women. Bellas son (Sonny) and his bride to be (Karen) now move in a different social strata, which causes tension amongst the characters. As the world around them goes through catastrophic changes, so too will they not be the same after the war. The material has an operatic broadness which brims with a warmth that will touch your heart. This is an evening youll remember for the laughs, food, and warm Italian hospitality. If you are Italian or just love all things Italian you cannot miss this play. Included in the price will be a wide variety of Italian food and drink donated by several local area restaurants served during intermission alfresco. The price is $17 general admission $15 for seniors and students. All Tickets can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets at 1-800-838-3006.
The play will be performed at the Broadway Theatre on the evenings of November 6th, 7th, 13th, and 14th, 2009 at 8pm Matinee performances Nov. 8th and 15th at 2:30pm
