DAVID GERALD SUTTON CD RELEASE + OKLAHOMA
David Gerald Sutton:
David Gerald Sutton can create a full orchestra all on his own. Equipping his violin with effects and a looper pedal, David is able to sound like a cello, bass, and a plethora of other instruments, recording all the parts together live onstage. The results are intricate and beautiful soundscapes reminiscent of film composer Thomas Newman (Finding Nemo, Saving Mr. Banks) mixed with the electronic beats of Tycho. David's new EP, entitled Communion, encapsulates this sound, blending traditional pop structure and melody with instrumental ambience and classical undertones.
Enlisting the help of former "Owl City" drummer Matthew Decker and Nathanael Raway, local keyboardist for the Minnesota pop group "Cedar," Communion gives the listener a unique perspective of the violin. Songs like Leap of Faith and Infinite are uplifting and cheerful, with layers of percussion sitting against pulsing synth bass and pizzicato riffs. Others like To Protect and Watch Over strip away the drums in favor of flowing string pads. All the while, beautiful and memorable melodies sing overhead, completing the sonic landscape. "I wanted to create music that people could understand without lyrics," says David, "To laugh and cry and feel the emotions in the songs at their core."
A record that is both powerful and pensive, Communion is worthy of the repeat button.

Oklahoma:
Local indie rock group Oklahoma has only been around for a short while, but their songs feel like you have heard them your entire life. Jacob Sharbono (guitars, vocals) writes uniquely crafted melodies, while his female counterpart Meg Kirsch (keys, vocals) delivers beautiful, supporting harmonies. Add in well crafted guitar tone and a solid drummer and you have a modern day Fleetwood Mac bursting into the Twin Cities music scene. Oklahoma will make you feel right at home.
