Thomas Adès's metaphysical meditation on life, death, and memory gives way to Shostakovich's brilliantly expanded, terrifying Violin Sonata, performed by the unbelievable Augustin Hadelich. "Return to the Idyll" will shed new light on Janácek's early masterpiece. The extreme delicacy of sound and the force of emotion in this program constitute a love letter to the acoustics of our beloved Jordan Hall.
