Cornish Preparatory Dance Company and students in the Preparatory Dance Program at Cornish College of the Arts present 'Nutcracker.' Students from age 6 to 18 bring this classic story to the stage with heart and a bit of humor. The choreographers have captured the essence of the Nutcracker story while giving the students the opportunity to participate in a classical ballet with competence while honoring their particular talents.
Steve Casteel, Preparatory Dance Director, Cornish College of the Arts adjunct faculty member and former soloist with Houston Ballet, has brought his expertise both as a choreographer and coach to the production. Leigh-Ann Cohen-Hafford, Preparatory Dance Faculty, former dancer with Ballet B.C., and former Artistic Director of Washington Academy of the Performing Arts has choreographed a stunning Act II Grand Pas De Deux. Christine Juarez, Preparatory Dance Program Faculty Member and Cornish Summer Dance Program Director again brings her talents of working with younger performers to the stage. Her staging of the Party Scene, Battle Scene and Mother Ginger are creative, charming and the audience will enjoy an occasional bit of humor. Danela Lewis, Preparatory Dance Faculty Member, former dancer with San Francisco Ballet and Bella Lewinski Company, has created an ethereal Snow Pas De Deux. Paula J. Peters, Preparatory Dance Program Faculty Member, former Spectrum dancer, Cornish College of the Arts graduate, and a University of Washington MFA graduate student has created wonderful choreography for the Snow Scene, Chinese and Arabian divertissements', bringing a more modern flavor to Act II, The Magic Kingdom.
Appropriate for all ages. No Babes in arms. There is a small amount of smoke and a loud bang in the battle scene.
