16 to Life
Kate (Hallee Hirsh) is surrounded by a colorful cast of characters, including fellow ice cream shop workers, her guy friend Rene, her best friend Darby, the sexually jaded Russian immigrant, Tatiana, and her boss and disillusioned hippie Louise (Theresa Russell), and a host of customers, including Kates potential first kiss material.
Something of a sex symbol for the art-house crowd, Theresa Russell was discovered by a photographer when she was twelve. She studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Her film debut was in Elia Kazan's The Last Tycoon (1976, as Robert Mitchum's daughter) and she held her own opposite Dustin Hoffman in Straight Time. It was her powerful, sexually frank work as a woman involved with a psychiatrist in Bad Timing: A Sensual Obsession that established her as a major actress. She was striking as a very Marilyn Monroe-like actress in Insignificance and scored a popular success as the seductive killer who intrigues Debra Winger in Black Widow. Russell has since appeared in the HBO mini-series Empire Falls with Ed Harris and in 2007's Spider-Man 3 as the wife of Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church).
