Last year a group of the local music scene's "All Stars" proved it's worth by putting on an energetic and memorable performance for the Downtown After Five crowd. It is no mystery then, as to why they were asked to do it again during the 2014 concert series. As a testament to the abundance of musical talent in Asheville, this year's Asheville All Stars Band boasts an almost entirely new lineup when compared to the cast of last years inaugural show. Musical Director for the event Josh Blake, says the confirmations so far include Jeff Sipe, Kat WIlliams, Derrick Johnson, Mary Francis and Lee Allen (Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band), Jamar Woods (The Fritz), Molly Kummerle (Paper Tiger/Molly Parti), Zaq Suarez (The Hermit Kings), Cody Wright (Jonathan Scales Forchestra), Holiday Childress (The Goodies!), Ben Bjorlie (Tuesday Night Funk Jam House Band) and more to be announced. After Downtown After 5 the "All Star" crew will head down to The One Stop to join Jeff Sipe and his trio for what promises to be a night of memorable collaborations.
Jeff Sipe & Friends:
Jeff Sipe (born January 31, 1959, Berlin, Germany) is an American drummer. He is a rock and jazz fusion drummer, however, he is proficient in many other styles which he has demonstrated in his decades of drumming. He is a founding member of Aquarium Rescue Unit along with Col. Bruce Hampton. He also played with the self-applied Cajun Slamgrass Band Leftover Salmon and in the Zambiland Orchestra, an experimental big band featuring members of Phish, Widespread Panic and others. Currently touring in 2011 with Jeff Coffin & the Mu'tet, Sipe recently has toured with Keller Williams with Moseley, Droll and Sipe and Jimmy Herring Band. He has been said to "live for music" by Herring, who says though he and Sipe have now known each other for years, Jeff Sipe remains his first choice of any drummer around with whom to play.
