The University of Washington Women's Center's presents Nicholas Kristof as the first speaker in our new series, Opening Doors for Girls and Women. The event will begin at 11:30 with registration and mingling, and continues with lunch and special guest speaker Nicholas Kristof. Following the talk is an opportunity for audience question and answer, and then Kristof will personalize your copy of his book, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. Lunch and a copy of Kristof's book are included for each attendee in the $50 ticket price.

The University of Washington Women's Center is housed in the historic Cunningham Hall, built in 1909 as part of University of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. The purpose of the building was to celebrate women's accomplishments and provide hospitality for visiting women. Today it houses the University's Women's Center and a series of programs and services that include: advising/counseling, support groups, tutoring, mentoring, referrals, Lifelong Learning classes & workshops, a girls program encouraging underrepresented girls to pursue higher education, Re-Entry Program, Gender Equity and Violence Prevention Program, educational forums on gender issues, and research & policy development.
