Hotel San Carlos Take a step back in time to the elegance of the roaring 20's at the Hotel San Carlos. Built in 1928, the Hotel San Carlos is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was once the hotel of choice for America's rich and famous. The hotel's guest list has included such Hollywood luminaries as Mae West, Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Marilyn Monroe, and Gene Autry. The Hotel can also be seen during the opening sequence of Alfred Hitchcock's classic film Psycho.
Frequently listed among the top ten most haunted hotels in America, the Ghost Lounge at the Hotel San Carlos is the perfect setting to hear the stories and poems of Edgar Allan Poe performed by our professional actors. Said to be haunted by the roaming ghost of Leone Jensen who committed suicide by leaping from the hotel's roof in 1928, the Hotel San Carlos was also built on the site of the first school house in Phoenix in 1874. Some guests have heard laughing children in the hallways on nights when no children had checked in to the hotel.
