Founded in 1999 by owner and winemaker Wells Guthrie, Copain Wines produces elegant, nuanced wines that seamlessly marry California terroir with the lighter touch of French winemaking. While working for Wine Spectator at the beginning of his career, Wells became enamored with the wines of France, particularly those of the Rhône Valley. He moved to the region to learn from the best; he apprenticed with esteemed winemaker Michel Chapoutier for two years and spent time with Jean Louis Chave. At Copain, Wells creates wines that are firmly rooted in California, yet with the sensibilities of the European wines that so moved him. He focuses on chardonnay, pinot noir, and syrah that are lower in alcohol, well-balanced, and pair beautifully with our California-inspired French cuisine. Please join us as we welcome Wells Guthrie to Café des Amis to share his lovely wines, paired with a special menu crafted by chef Matt Sieger.
