MELVILLE'S BARTLEBY by Ian Lambton
The Marsh San Francisco, CA
An employer becomes anguished after hiring a copyist (long before photocopiers) who "prefers" to do increasingly less work, in this adaptation of the Herman Melville classic.
Ian Lambton grew up in Canada but began his theatrical career in the U. K., a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He worked as an actor with major companies like The Royal Lyceum and Pitlochry Festival Theatre, several touring companies, and with avant-garde groups like Leaping Tiger (founding member), and Scottish Mime Theatre. He appeared in the Edinburgh Fringe many times, was a founder of the Metrognomes, a 1980s theatrical rock band, and appeared in numerous BBC productions. In California, he has done commercial and film work as well as theatre, and worked for many years with Karl Rawicz's EDEN2 Theatre Ensemble. Ian is also a writer, teacher and director. For theatrical production, he has adapted classic work by Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear, and Rudyard Kipling.
