Change Your Movement, Change Your Life!
Eve will provide some background about the development of each reflex movement. We will have opportunities to remember moments in our lives when we experienced these physical responses, and we will explore simple, practical techniques for relieving stress.
Drawing on her training in authentic movement, body/mind centering, JourneyDance, and folk dances of the world, Linda guides participants to re-create their own unconscious protective movements as conscious and personal expressions. Time for journaling is provided.
The venue is a beautiful room with windows on three sides and a hard wood floor. Organic lunch (salad, grain, fruit) is provided - bring your own extras if you want them! The eating experience is actually part of the workshop - wait and see!
All movement is optional, and participants are free to join the group or move privately, as they prefer. We will move to recorded playlists of world, silence, and self-created sound, with our voices, bodies, and percussion instruments. The archetypal nature of the movement begins to create a sense of friendship and community - a feeling that we can take away, and techniques that we can bring into our daily lives.
Linda Ugelow, M.A., is a founding member of the world music ensemble, Libana. As their principal dancer and choreographer, she has been dancing the music of the world for three decades, performing in Morocco, India, Bulgaria, and various other countries across the globe. Linda is a former faculty member of The Longy School of Music, as movement specialist in their Dalcroze Certificate Program. She holds a graduate degree in Movement Studies from Lesley University, focused on Authentic Movement and Body/Mind Centering. A certified JourneyDance instructor, she conducts dances monthly in Bedford, MA, and teaches workshops at conferences, festivals, and studios locally and nationally. Her other interests include her work as a personal growth consultant, and supplying local restaurants with the organic vegetables she grows in Carlisle, MA, at her Dancing Tomato Farm. Eve Kodiak, M.M., is a musician/kinesiologist with degrees from Harvard University and The New England Conservatory of Music, and a license from the Educational Kinesiology Foundation. She bases her clinical work in Cambridge, MA, at The Lydian Center, where she splits her time between children and adults, focusing on development and personal growth. Her modalities include Brain Gym, Craniosacral Therapy, and sound healing, and she focuses her work around the archetypal alphabet of human movement called "Infant Reflexes." She presents at conferences and schools locally and internationally most recently in Slovenia and is the author of numerous articles, a blog for the Early Childhood Movement and Music Association, and Rappin' on the Reflexes, a practical guide to reflex integration for children and their adults.
