Is it your dream to write the next New York Times bestselling mystery? Let author Eric Beetner show you how. In this one day class, he'll explore the subgenres of mystery: Hardboiled, Noir, procedural, cozy, and traditional P.I. stories. Eric will show you how to use a mystery to enhance any story. You'll also learn the tools of the trade such as the MacGuffin, the red herring, and Chekhov's Gun. Through fun, in-class exercises, you'll pitch your setup, find the genre that fits your story and get some great ideas for how to compose it. By the end of the class, you'll have written a suspenseful, killer opening scene that instantly hooks your reader, have a genre specific reading list, and you'll be well on your way to writing your masterpiece. Trench coat not included.
