Back by popular demand, the "Passeio do Vinho," Downtown Hayward's summer wine tasting event, is set to pop the corks once again on August 16. Participants will savor compelling new wine varietals and delicious small bites while strolling through the City's historic downtown.
Fifteen participating Downtown Hayward businesses will open their doors to serve as "Cork-it-Pour-it" stations for the event, hosting groups of registered wine walkers originating from two different registration points: Hayward City Hall and Sun Gallery. In addition to wine tasting, participants will enjoy a range of hors d'oeuvres and live musical performances along the tour.
Tickets for the event are available online and at six of the stops along the tour, including Hayward City Hall, Sun Gallery, The Cobblers, Doc's Wine Shop, Valley Antiques and Vintage Alley. Participants who purchase tickets online will begin at City Hall, while those purchasing tickets at downtown locations will begin their experience at Sun Gallery. At both venues, registration will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m.
"We're so excited for the Passeio's second year," said event organizer Ramona Thomas. "In addition to celebrating the city's rich Portuguese heritage, we'll be showcasing a wide range of exceptional wines at a selection of downtown businesses as diverse as Hayward itself. Just as important, a portion of the proceeds from the event will support our nonprofit partner, Sun Gallery."
Participants will receive maps of the event route to help them wend their way through downtown Hayward to the sounds of pop, jazz and R&B music performed by live artists. The tasting route will also feature non-alcohol serving locations, although all event participants must be age 21 years of age or older.
A range of ticket options between $25 and $50 are available with 10% discounts for seniors and students with proof of age and student status. All ticket holders receive admission to the event and a commemorative wine glass. "Chateau Reserve" ticket holders will also receive a keepsake tote bag. "Estate Reserve" ticket holders will enjoy all of the above plus a range of other small commemorative items.
