Celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach with chamber music by Johann Sebastian Bach's second and most well-known son. The program includes every manner of chamber music for these instruments: his solo for unaccompanied flute, a harpsichord solo, the duo for flute and violin, a sonata for flute and continuo and trio sonatas.
"A world of tender and brilliant magic... ...a music so refined, it draws and draws, yet never swamps the senses......virtuosity and technical brilliance ...I couldn't be quite sure I hadn't dreamed it all.". -- Elizabeth Courtney of Music in Victoria (review of a recent CPE Bach Tricentennial event in February with Jeffrey Cohan, Stephen Creswell and others)

An exciting manuscript of 770 pages was "collected and put in order by Philidor le Pere", Louis XIV's music librarian Andre Danican Philidor l'ainé, in 1713 for "the little concerts given for his Majesty in the evenings". Discovered some years ago by Jeffrey Cohan in Paris and explored last year as part of the Capitol Hill Chamber Music Festival, "Louis XIV's Bassoon" recreates the regular evening performances given by the illustrious members of the king's Musique de la Chambre in this East Coast premiere of 5 of the 67 suites which shed light on Louis XIV's preferred chamber music over six decades, on instruments with which Louis XIV was familiar - including a preferred bass instrument at the court of the Sun King: the fabulous baroque bassoon. ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
