Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Our festive annual Holiday concert is a perennial favorite and this year has even more audience participation than before, with the orchestra asking the audience to sing along to two of the works (the first and the last), plus clap along to the Radetzky March. The Sing-Along is always great fun and gets the Holiday season off to a great start!
This concert will feature a new arrangement from our own Donald Raff (trombonist in the SSO) entitled A Czech Christmas based on Christmas tunes from the Czech Republic. Also on the program will be music that is associated with New Years in Vienna: the Overture to Die Fledermaus and the Radetzky March, which is their Stars and Stripes.
Todd Hayen,a well-known film composer who has written a number of pieces for the Holiday Season, composed Maltese Winter being presented at this concert. His music is appropriately lush considering the genre in which he is used to working.
Also on the program is the very popular (according to our past Holiday Concert audiences) Tchaikovsky, arranged by Duke Ellington and orchestrated by Jeff Tyzik, Nutcracker Suite, which is done is a great, big-band, jazz style, lots of familiar strains and surprises as well.
This concert is often sold out or nearly so, so get your tickets early.
