Gretchen Kai Halpert  combines art, science and education. Her background includes a degree in botany, graduate studies in biological illustration, and a certificate in scientific  illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD)/CE. She has taught illustration at RISD/CE, Brown and Wheaton and just joined the staff as the Visual Arts teacher at the ASMS in Corning, NY. Gretchen offers workshops and lectures at home and abroad, and runs "Botanical Travel Tours". Her drawings have appeared in books, journals and scientific publications, at zoos and nature centers.   Gretchen is past-president of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and the GNSI-New England.
