Three Centuries of Mozart?
The Susquehanna Symphony's 38th season begins with a question mark: Three Centuries of Mozart? How can this be possible? Mozart will be featured prominently on this first program, of course, with two dances and the wonderful Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra, with Bel Air's own Kara Iwanowski as soloist along with her piano teacher, Elizabeth Borowsky. Kara, a very talented young pianist, will be an 8th grade student at Southampton Middle School this school year! Elizabeth Borowsky actually performed Mozart's 21st Concerto with the SSO a number of years ago, so this is kind of a full circle. You will not be disappointed in the wonderful music presented by these lovely ladies!
The next hundred years brought Tchaikovsky who was a great lover of the music of Mozart and his Mozartiana Suite, based on the music of Mozart, shows this love very well! Brian Folus will conduct the Gigue from this Suite.
On to the third century of MozartAmerican Composer Russell Peck also had a great love of the music of Mozart so he wrote "Mozart Escapes the Museum" a Concerto for Orchestra which is based on music from Mozart's piano sonatas and which features a different section of the orchestra in each of its four movements.
This concert may well be the most popular of the season with such wonderful music and prodigious talent!
