Bombs Away!

BOMBS AWAY is back, now in the beautiful new Hoover-Leppen Theater of the Center on Halsted. In BOMBS AWAY, Sally Deering and Larry Bortniker's crazily comic homage to Broadway musicals, Dr. Barry Mishkin, America's foremost Broadway musicologist presents his amazing collection of scenes and numbers cut from Broadway's classic musicals.

In BOMBS AWAY! Mishkin and his troupe of actors dare to present his collection against the wishes of the writers of the classic musicals and despite a stop order directive from a judge.

Selections scheduled to be performed are Krakatoa which was the original island setting for South Pacific, I Own A Nail Salon from the rarely seen flash-forward ending of Miss Saigon, I Shake Me Green Shillelagh which at one point anchored Finian's Rainbow, and the catchy See Ya In Ikea from Mamma Mia! And of course, very few people remember the title song Bombs Away! was Mother Abbess' initial response to Maria's question about how to handle the Nazi's in Sound of Music.

Of course, all the songs and scenes are really the original creations of Bortniker and Deering and will leave the audience cheering.

BOMBS AWAY! is directed by David Zak, with musical direction by Jimmy Morehead, costumes by Jeff Jones, and musical staging by Christopher Pazdernik.

BOMBS AWAY will be performed in the Hoover-Leppen Theater of the Center on Halsted, 3656 North Halsted.

Showtimes for BOMBS AWAY! are 8:00 p.m on Fridays August 7 and 21, 8:00 pm on Saturdays August 8, 15, and 22, 5:00 pm on Sundays, August 9, 16 and 23, and 8:00 on Wednesday August 12. All tickets are $25 for general admission.
