Booty Dance/Twerk Workshop with Kimberly Jordan
Join the Academy of Burlesque and guest celebrity choreographer Kimberly Jordan for a 2 hour workshop to learn more about the historical context of Twerk, technique, and choreography!
Twerk actually originated in West Africa and shares a lot of commonalities with the Mapouka Dance from Cote D'Ivoire. Although the style has modernized and is now danced to more hip hop and twerk music, it was originally danced to African music. It is a celebratory dance that also makes for quite the physical workout.
Burlesque and Twerk share common links of empowerment in celebrating female sexuality and encouraging self-confidence.

Bio: Kim Jordan is a dancer and choreographer from the USA. She was self-taught until the age of 15, learning how to dance in her bedroom by watching videos of Michael Jackson and Madonna or programs like MTV's The Grind and The Fly Girls from In Living Color. She is the first and only person in her family who dances and has decided to pursue a profession in the arts hence she's had to pave her own way in the business. Her first step was moving to Las Vegas with 19 years and a dream. She became double licensed in Dance and Sociology from the University of Las Vegas in 2005. Her passion in both the arts and social sciences helps yield choreography rich in social and historical implications. Six years dancing and choreographing professionally as well as acting as teacher and director in Los Angeles and Las Vegas in addition to another six in Europe certify her knowledge and expertise in the field.
Her most recent work includes choreographing the Heineken commercial 2014 "The Odyssey," the Nike commercial 2013, "Possibilities," presenting her performing arts piece for the Choreography Championship 2013 Barcelona, collaborating with the Council of Europe as a Hip Hop Educator in their Anti-Rumors project as well as coordinating & judging the 2nd National Championship of Hip Hop in Spain 2014. This summer, in addition to the courses she'll be giving in Barcelona, she's also been invited to Zurich and Oslo as a guest teacher.
Kim believes that we are very lucky to be able to express ourselves through dance because in the end, human expression is one of the most powerful things in the world. Engaging in more forms of artistic exploration helps us learn more about life's truths.
