The VORTEX Cosplay Expo
The VORTEX Cosplay Expo runs in conjunction with the debut of the new Ethos fantasy film, Octia of the Pink Ocean. The VORTEX is a natural hotbed for Cosplay, or "costume play". From a theatre company that has spent years developing skills in the creation of fantastical costuming, VORTEX artists have a wealth of experience to share with all who attend the Expo. Cosplay participants are invited to attend up to 7 days of Expo events wearing their favorite Cosplay attire. The Expo will provide vendors, crafty artists, workshops, speakers, gatherings and nightly opportunities to view Octia of the Pink Ocean (an 80 minute feature film).

Workshops include: How to Make Leather Gauntlets, Headgear for Heroes, Worbla Wonders, Fantasy Makeup Design and Application, Green Screen Stories, Fantasy Genitalia, Cybernetic Movement, Karnika the Elytra of GoldSun Sex, and the World of Octia. Designers and actors from Octia of the Pink Ocean will be in attendance in costume to provide instruction and facilitation.

The highlight of each evening will be the screening of Octia of the Pink Ocean, a cybernetic opera fantasy film created and composed by Austin visionary Chad Salvata and directed by award-winning theatre artist Bonnie Cullum. After the film each night, there will be a Q&A talkback with Salvata and other artistic contributors to the film. Expo participants will also have the opportunity to view costumes and models and discover how they were created. Because of the unique and extraordinary vision of this film, the elaborate designs, the music and the high-caliber singing. Octia of the Pink Ocean is unlike anything you have ever experienced.

Saturday, August 16th will include a full day of activities, including live music and the East Austin Handmade Arts Market.
