DETAILS: Join us for a unique, uke-strum into history! Board a 1916 passenger car behind the vintage steam engine of the V&T Railroad that carried the miners and aristocrats of the Comstock. It might also have carried the first ukuleles into Nevada after their debut at the 1915 Pan Pacific Expo in San Francisco! Dress the part if you like, anything from late 1800's to 1950's attire would match the history of the train.
We will take over an entire passenger car, strumming up and down the original route that ran from Carson City to Virginia City. Along the way, we will pass through historic tunnels, serenade the sagebrush, and maybe even chase wild mustangs that are the descendants of the horses of the Comstock.
After the 2 hour train ride up the hill, we will be shuttled up to the main street of Virginia City for a lunch break and a couple of hours of sightseeing and shopping. Then we will strum the 90 minute ride back down to our cars and drive the 15 minutes back up to Virginia City's Silverland Inn, overlooking the "Hundred Mile View" of Nevada's desert.
After checking in, we will convene in the banquet room for a clawhammer workshop. This vintage strumming style, popular in the heyday of the "Olde West," will be led by "The Quiet American," Aaron & Nicole Keim.
After the workshop we'll enjoy a catered dinner, followed by an evening of ukulele music. The Quiet American will perform, followed by an open mic session. We'll also raffle off a ukulele to one lucky attendee!
After a good night's sleep in our deluxe rooms, we'll enjoy a continental breakfast Sunday morning followed by a second ukulele workshop from Aaron, themed to our surroundings and the history of the area. Finally, we'll all gather outside for a group photo with the gorgeous panoramic view behind us.
DUE TO LIMITED TRAIN SEATING, THERE IS ONLY ROOM FOR 60 UKESTERS!
TRAIN RIDE ONLY? With such limited seating on the train and the difficulty of exactly matching seats to room occupancy, we will only offer registration minus rooms if all rooms sell out and there are still train seats remaining. An email will be sent to our PlayUke.net mailing list if these become available.
NOTE: The V&T leaves from the Carson City Eastgate Depot (NOT from the downtown Railroad Museum). The Eastgate Depot is located just off Hwy 50 about 4 miles east of downtown Carson City. Look for the signs, turn south on Flint Road which is about 1/4 mile West of the V&T overpass bridge.
