Joey Molinaro At Canvas Gallery San Diego
Pittsburgh-based violinist, composer, improviser, multimedia artist, and performance artist Joey Molinaro returns to San Diego for a unique night of signature solo violin works plus extended repertoire.
Since his conservatory training he has primarily been operating in underground adventurous music scenes, including nearly three solid years of DIY touring. Joey Molinaro's style has been described as "acoustic grindcore," using rapid foot percussion to accent and fill out lightning-fast violin riffs with ecstatic vocalizations at climax points.
His set will be augmented with additional works
--INTERNATIONAL COVEN OF DANGEROUS VIOLINISTRY: nine short works scored in collaboration with Joey Molinaro for performance on his unique solo setup.
--WE electro-acoustic work with live video projections, originally composed for the group Basilica
--THE MUSIC OF ERICH ZANN: H.P.-Lovecraft- inspired performance art piece featuring violin improvisations
"If you're looking for inventive, brave, intelligent new music, this is pretty much the stuff." -Scott Shoger, Nuvo
"This is the violin as you've never heard it before: disorienting, nefarious discord paired with thrashy guitar riffs. If that doesn't pique your interest, this is only a fraction of the Molinaro experience." -Kristen K, Razorcake
"There is a certain earthy quality to this that I find most endearing like a diamond in the rough." -Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery
"I can't imagine anyone not liking this." -Valerie Kuhene, The Deli Magazine
