NOCO/Fresno Dance Collective - Raw Meat & Dignity
NOCO is thrilled to return to SANTA CRUZ FRINGE for our 2nd year! We're coming from a series of SOLD OUT performances. Raw Meat & Dignity is a fantastical exploration into the life of a charming, beautiful, heterosexual, white, Christian, upper-middle-class, overly educated, well-traveled, antebellum debutante lady-in-training.
The cast of 6 aerial dancers explores an unraveling of social graces in three acts: I. mignon, II. ham hock, and III. Tenderloin, featuring original writing, excerpt readings from etiquette and fairytale books, southern 'spoon' songs, human chandeliers, and a rather eclectic soundtrack, including Mozart and dub step.
"One word for the Fresno Dance Collective's new Rogue show: gorgeous. Add a few more words: moving, thoughtful, thrilling, meaningful." "Two dancers bounce on a pile of mattresses, illuminated by the flash of a Polaroid. A man nibbles an apple provocatively out of his partner's hand. Lights in the hair of three aerial dancers twinkle as they hang upside down. Rubber balls and confetti suddenly fill the stage, offering a sliver of time and space that seems joyful and alive."
"One piece is fiercely emotional In the movement "Once," Cavallaro performs in red heels and a many-layered wedding-style gown, which doesn't deter her from the energetic and at times achingly beautiful choreography. This dance feels like a swirl: love, heartache, loss, persistence, joy. With this must-see concert, a triumphant NOCO brings to the [Festival] a sense of art." - The Fresno Bee
"Imagine Alice in Wonderland meets Moulin Rouge, with a bit of Princess Diaries. The movement in the piece is a conglomeration of yielding, powerlessness, playfulness, pride, and showmanship. The greatest privilege for me as a dancer in the production is being able to revisit real sensations of growing up - incapability, security, trust, mindlessness, pretending, and just plain hamming it up." Assistant Director
