Meet the first (and, for now, only) "Miss Hollywood Burlesque" -- Sheila Starr Siani! A lifelong dancer, trained in ballet, tap and jazz, Sheila spent years as a competitive Tahitian and hula dancer. Her love of fertility dances and interest in the seductive arts led her onto the stage as an exotic dancer and when her Grammy, a former Vegas showgirl, saw her perform, the veteran dancer taught Sheila to blend the slow burn of striptease with the elegance of her formal dance training.
This velvety fox steps onto the stage like something straight out of a Tennessee Williams play. Though she is a California girl, she carries herself with the poise of any good Southern belle, but is bold and unapologetic in her display of sexuality.
A performer, producer and teacher who thoroughly enjoys bringing women out of their shells and turning them into confident sirens, Sheila Starr Siani is teaching two workshops in Boston on Thursday, July 10th. Take either one -- or both, and save!
Workshop #1: Body Lines on Stage Thursday, July 10, 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Straight, curved, angled lines are an important part of your stage presentation. This workshop focuses on body lines through lecture, warm-up, stretches, and movement exercises. We will go through posture, poses and progressions of movement and consider them in terms of the body lines we want to create on stage. In burlesque, we aren't all trained dancers, but if we pay attention to our lines we can look like one.
different poses and consider which are most flattering for ourselves and to build them into choreography
to effectively "cheat" difficult movements to make them look well executed (even if you can't actually do a triple pirouette)
move about the stage, in and out of positions without breaking our lines
to elegantly extend movement through our body lines to create polished choreography
Class fee: $25.00 ------------------------------------- Workshop #2: Strip Like a Stripper Thursday, July 10, 8:00pm to 9:30pm
Exotic dancers in the strip clubs embody raw sexuality. Usually working on smaller, intimate stages, or even in private rooms, they tend to draw the audience into them, enticing them with a glimpse of their personal sensuality. Blending these techniques with the theatrical, outbound energy of burlesque can add a super-seductive dimension to your performance.
Students will learn
Strip clubs then and now
survey and practice strip club-style dance moves
talk about what makes us feel sexy.
Movement directed inward versus outward and what the intention are and when to use each
Undulations, floor work, body pops
facial expressions and eye contact
suggestive poses and movement for stage
Class fee: $35.00
Or take both classes for $50.00 and save $10.00!
