John Powhida International Airport (JPX) is proud to release AIRPORT LIFE, their first CD in 6 years tonight at The Lizard Lounge with special guests Schooltree and Mike Gent
John Powhida is a singer/songwriter living in Boston. John is a multiple Boston Music Award nominee and his songs have been featured in episodes of My Name is Earl and Men in Trees. He has sung on recordings by The Click Five, Sarah Borges and The Gentlemen. You may have seen him perform with his beloved Boston rock and soul combo The Rudds or even as guitarist with rock n roll icon and author Bebe Buell.
Powhida's main boogie from here on out will continue to be John Powhida International Airport, a potent 6 piece rock, disco, soul, pop fuzion entertainment unit of the highest original order.
SCHOOLTREE
Schooltree's eclectic sound fits into the genre of Progressive in that it's classically-influenced rock, but also layers elements of Experimental Pop, Broadway, and Singer-Songwriter styles. The effect is a unique theater of music, using melodic hooks, unorthodox tonality, and dramatic performance to spin gritty operatic odyssey - from dark lullaby of the doomed to shredding anthem of the righteous and everything in between. Their album Rise conjures elements of rock-opera in highly crafted, piano-driven, virtuosic guitar-laden symphonic rock arrangements that explore both angular riffs and ambient textural detail. A few points of reference include Kate Bush, early Genesis, Supertramp, and Steven Sondheim. The album offers a unique, modern spin on classic 70's era AOR, with rich harmonic content, walls of multi-tracked guitars and acrobatic vocal harmonies, compelling lyrical content, and subtle humor.
MIKE GENT
Founding member of The Figgs (started in 1987), The Gentlemen (started in 1999), and The Rapid Shave (started in 2009). Has played with many other artists and bands as well, including Graham Parker, Mike Viola/Candy Butchers, Tommy Stinson, etc...
