Say The Body is Like This Lamp. Choreography by Alyson Boell and Deborah Rosen
Alyson Boell and Deborah Rosen invite you to join them for an evening of thoughtful and invigorating dance art. Alyson Boell will be presenting her newest dance work, Say The Body Is Like This Lamp, on August 21st and 22nd with evening performances both Friday and Saturday at 8pm. Included in the evening are two of Deborah Rosens newest choreographic works, Giunone and S.O.S./ Sleeping on Snow.
Choreographer, Alyson Boell, will present the premier of Say The Body Is Like This Lamp, an evening length contemporary dance piece that explores the curious nature of the unconscious, that part of a person that Carl Jung termed the shadow half. Say The Body Is Like This Lamp is an intricate movement collage that follows the journey of one who discovers their personal shadow and becomes enveloped within it. This compelling and powerful piece is performed by six dancers: Christopher Anderson, Alyson Boell, Libby Buchanan, Genevieve Carson, Johannah Berger, and Wen Chu Yang with original costumes designed by E.B. Brooks, lights by Phil Kong, and an original musical score by Alexander Marchand.
The evening will start with two short, poignant dance pieces choreographed by Deborah Rosen. Giunone, featuring five dancers, was well received at Celebrate Dance 2009. The name Giunone is Italian for Juno, the goddess of marriage and love and the protectress of women. It is set to original music by Tom Moose with live vocals by Laine Proctor. Ms. Rosen will also be premiering an installation piece S.O.S./ Sleeping on Snow" in collaboration with visual artist, Jessamyn Pattison, who has created drawings on rice paper that will hang within the piece. This dance is inspired by Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz, and is set to music by Bobby Johnston.
Dont miss this opportunity to see the thoughtful and enticing newest inventions of these two up and coming choreographers and the dancing of a dozen talented Los Angeles dancers.
