Creative Summers 6-Day Hip-hop-based Summer Camp (July 21-26)
We are collaborating with local non-profit, Oregon Universal Zulu Nation, to offer a 6-day fun and engaging learning intensive for youth, ages 7-18, based on the elements of hip-hop culture: Breakdance, Street-Art, Emceeing, DJing and the 5th element, Knowledge, which has often been left behind with the commercialization of hip-hop.
Each student will choose which of the four art-forms they would like to pursue for an intensive and fun learning experience during the remainder of the camp. Each student will have one-on-one time with mentors to help and guide them through the process of learning and developing in their chosen art-form. They can set goals and mentors will check in on their progress throughout the camp. On the last day, we will throw a community jam session where students will showcase their talents. We encourage parents, family members and friends to join us to share in the experience of community coming together to celebrate and support the young ones sharing their gifts.
We will provide a welcoming, safe, supportive and positive learning environment for youth to be creative, dance, sing, paint, express themselves, learn and develop new skills. We intend to create a community atmosphere that is engaging while teaching tools for real-world application and personal development. At the end of the camp, we want students to have gained a greater sense of responsibility, confidence, ability to think independently, a positive understanding of hip-hop culture and first-hand experience in its founding principles: Peace, Love Unity & Having Fun!
