La Traviata from La Scala
The Pickford Cinema Bellingham, WA
Bellingham opera fans will not need an extended introduction to the famed La Traviata, one of Verdi's most celebrated works, based on a novel by Alexandre Dumas. In this love story-opera, courtesan Violetta Valery meets a new admirer, Alfredo Germont, who confesses his love. Trouble ensues. Premiering in 1853 at the Teatro la Fenice, we jump over 150 years to this production at La Scala, which sees Angela Gheorghiu in her celebrated debut as Violetta. Gheorghiu leads an all-star cast that includes Ramn Vargas and Roberto Frontali. With the brilliant conductor Lorin Maazel on the podium, La Traviata is directed by Liliana Cavani.
La Traviata is presented in High Definition digital cinema.
