U.S. Japan Friendship Special Music Concert
These special concerts will bring together ten extraordinarily talented musicians with autism from Japan and the United States. Although the musicians come from different cultures, their talents and passion for music and performance bring them together. Each group of musicians will perform separately, with a finale celebrating both groups of musicians as they perform together.
Former First Lady of Japan, Madame Kayoko Hosokawa, will introduce the event. Madame Hosokawa, with the help of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founded Special Olympics Nippon. She is the producer of the films Inclusion and the 2013 Academy Award-nominated Strains of Odyssey. Madame Hosokawa is devoted to serving children with special needs, working toward her goal of creating a society without any barriers to their needs.
The performance is made possible through the leadership of Nobuko Saito Cleary, CSMA's Chairman of Japanese Programs, with Dr. Gary Cleary, and the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco. Generous event supporters include Union Bank, the Japan Society of Northern California, the Edward Joseph Daly Foundation, the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Foundation, Thomas and Wallace Brunner, Cross Cultural Communications, Allen Okamoto, and Courtyard by Marriott.
