Theatre Black Dog presents Michael V. Gazzo's A Hatful of Rain
A Hatful of Rain by Michael V. Gazzo, was first created by the Actors Studio in New York, with such well known actors as Ben Gazzara and Anthony Franciosa, making its way to Broadway, then to become the classic film it is today. The play deals with morphine addiction.  A Korean War veteran, hooked on the drug after being severally wounded in the war. The play opens with Johnny, the addict, played masterfully by Matt Dy,  desperate for a fix, while the city is cracking down on the pushers, lead with fierce power by Mother, the head dealer, played by Richard Payne. His cohorts are the knife wheeling  Apples, played by Professor Fred Hopkins, and Johnny's desperate friend, Chuch, played by Dan Bordon. Putski, their "wacky' broad friend, is played  by Anna Boranian, closing weekend by Cristie Coffing. The core family is played by Matt Dy as Johnny, Joel Barham as his well meaning brother, Adrien Gamache as their father, who abandoned them as children to orphanages and relatives upon their Mother's death. Johnny's  long suffering pregnant wife is played with beautiful sensitivity by Vanessa Cobbs. The play has a great sense of nostalgia about the world of the 50's but its theme and moral apply to today and doesn't miss a beat in it's portrayal of addiction and what it does to a family. Directed by Theatre Black Dogs' Artistic Director, Susan Bradford. The group has been existence for almost 20 years, performing professional quality fringe theatre on the
Eastside and in Seattle.  The play opens Friday May 30th and runs through June 14th at The Black Dog Arts Cafe', where you can come early and buy a wonderful hand crafted
Mexican dinner before the show-a separate purchase from the
play on Friday and Saturdays. No matinee closing weekend. We are located in old Snoqualmie, right across from the Train Depot on Railroad Avenue.
