Pray the Devil Back to Hell
"Pray the Devil Back to Hell"

Presented by DCTV & Shooting People

Thursday, June 25th, 7:30pm
DCTV, 87 Lafayette Street, NYC

DCTV & Shooting People are honored to screen Pray the Devil Back to Hell followed by a Q&A with the film's Producer, Abigail E. Disney.

Pray the Devil Back to Hell is the extraordinary story of a small band of Liberian women who  armed only with white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions - came together in the midst of a bloody civil war, took on the warlords, and brought peace to their shattered country.  Through interviews, archival footage and striking images of contemporary Liberia, this documentary film reconstructs the moment as compelling testimony to the potential of women worldwide to alter the history of nations.

Since the films premier in New York in April 2008, it has won awards at Tribeca Film Festival (Best Documentary), Silverdocs (Witness Awards), Jackson Hole Film Festival (Audience Choice: Documentary), and Heartland Film Festival (Best Documentary).  The film opened in theaters to accolades of positive reviews in over 40 American cities, as well as in cities and countries around the world including London, Bosnia, Monrovia, Peru, Khartoum, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Kenya, and Goma.  Pray the Devil Back to Hell also had the honor of being the first film ever to be shown at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January 2009.

Abigail E. Disney (Producer) is Founder and the President of the Daphne Foundation, a progressive, social change Foundation that makes grants to grassroots, community-based organizations working with low-income communities in New York City.  Over the years, the Daphne foundation has provided more than five million dollars in general operating support grants, along with grants for technical assistance, and infrastructure improvement.  Abigail is also Vice Chair of the board of Shamrock Holdings Incorporated, an investment company that runs fund in private equity, real estate and stocks.  Abigail has also spoken to a wide variety of womens groups, community foundations and financial professionals across the country and internationally about the power of activist philanthropy and the importance of pursuing a life of engaged and intelligent volunteerism.  Abby serves on the boards of the White House Project, and the Global Fund for Women, and the Fund for the City of New York, as well as on the advisory boards of the Association to Benefit Children, and the HIV Law Project.  She is currently co-producing, with Gini Reticker, a series for Wide Angle and WNET tentatively called "Women and Children First" about the changing role of women in conflict worldwide.
