Robert Thornton Kent with Lori Oz & Brooks Hunnicutt / Colonels of Truth / Jeff Hanson
Robert Thornton Kent:
Described as a "real life gypsy and romantic", Robert's music always reflects a passion for living, travel, romance and love that lives in the songs that he sings.
He has shared the stage with Leo Kottke, Brooks Hunnicutt, Beppe Gambetta, Stuart Mossman, Danny Timms (Kris Kristofferson & The Highwaymen), Shannieband, and some of the most respected musicians in the world. . His schedule has him regularly performing coast-to-coast at festivals, colleges, universities, coffeehouses, house concerts, bars, private events and anywhere there's music.
His style is reflective of many incredible artists such as Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Townes VanZandt, Nick Drake and those he personally learned from like Leo Kottke, Patrick Sky, Dave Van Ronk , Danny Smith, Jeff Espina and Stuart Mossman.
In his early years he often found himself hitching rides and jumping freight trains across the USA, Canada and Mexico as he chased dreams and apprenticed himself to many great folk musicians while living life his way.
"Tell me a story, I'll write you a song." Lori has a knack when it comes to lyrics. Her words paint a picture in the mind of the listener and run the gammut of emotions from foot stomping rocking blues to tear jerking folk ballads. Her songs tell stories of life's good times and bad times, sweet and sad times while sending out messages of love, inner strength, personal empowerment and finding your own voice.
Folk music for the modern girl with a little blues, rock and good ol' americana. This singer songwriter has an eclectic style all her own. When not in the studio Lori is an accomplished explorer of truth & beauty, survival expert & part time gypsy. She is also a practicing possibilitarian, licensed joyologist and pursuer of happiness.
I worked for years as a vocalist in Los Angeles and have toured, recorded and performed back up vocals with many well known entertainers such as Stephen Stills ( vimeo clip "Spanish Suite on my profile) , Rod Stewart, Jose Feliciano, Helen Reddy, Steve Cropper, Loretta Lynn, Molly Hatchett, Mac Davis, Kris Kristofferson and John Prine. I have also appeared several times on The Tonight Show, Merv Griffith and Mike Douglas.
Colonels of Truth:
What started as a late night Easter Eve text conversation, most likely fueled by alcohol and the Holy Spirit of Charlton Heston's Moses flashing across the TV screen, and culminating in a living room strewn with guitars and a small flask of whiskey tucked neatly behind a table leg, has officially evolved into Colonels of Truth.
Rick Santos of the South Bay's honky tonk heroes Longliner has joined with Peter Dominguez, David Sands & Robert Scott Mueller of San Francisco's cow punk outfit GEN 11 in an attempt to strip everything away and return to their roots.
Their debut EP 'Songs of Love, Blood & Redemption', was recorded live at Fremont's Real Job Recording. One big room, a few microphones, and the optimistic confidence that The Colonels would begin and end each tune, at the same time, in the same key. Moments of success and defeat were left on tape for all to hear.
With the session behind them, and the addition of timekeeper Bradford 'Buford T. Justice' Parker on snare & brushes, Colonels of Truth have strapped the guitars, dobro, mandolin, banjo & upright bass to the roof of the old Ford and hit the clubs. Opening shows for Austin, TX legend Jon Dee Graham, The Voice's Austin Jenckes and Minnesota New Grass-Bluegrass powerhouse Pert' Near Sandstone, as well as picking up radio airplay along the Pacific coast
Stepping out from his quiet corner in the SF Bay area music scene, Jeff Hanson offers up his 2nd solo CD, "More Songs About Girls... for Guitar" on his vanity label, JeffyPop Records. "More Songs About Girls" is a 6 song EP, recorded entirely acoustically as a personal challenge to an artist who's main stock-intrade has been jangly and aggressive electric guitars.
"When my last group (the late, great Woolies) decided it was time to make a record, we felt we could do it ourselves if we only had the gear", says Jeff. "I wound up getting into the deep end of the home recording pool, and have been happily splashing around there ever since."
"More Songs About Girls" was surprisingly easy and awfully difficult at the same time. Being a home recording enthusiast has it's own challenges, which often include timing your noisemaking so as not to disturb the neighbors.
Most of what you'll hear on this EP was tracked in my Oakland apartment. Where entire drumkits were used, I rented studio space and hired the talent. Vocals and mixes were done at Raymond Anthony's studio.
Luscious vocal harmonies and crafty guitars help conspire to create what Jeff has come to call, "that sweet JeffyPop sound."
A veteran of The City's live music scene, Jeff has shared stages and opened for some of the area's best and brightest, including Counting Crows, Third Eye Blind, and Train. He's supporting his new release by playing anywhere and everywhere he's allowed, and you can get a schedule of upcoming shows by going to jeffypoprecords.com and clicking on his ReverbNation site.
