ONE MILLION BABES/DOUBLE CHOIR NIGHT:PRAIRIE FIRE LADY CHOIR W/ABY WOLF+ANONYMOUS CHOIR+ANA ROXANNE
In the fall of 2013, the Prairie Fire Lady Choir (PFLC) submitted a proposal to the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC) requesting a Community Arts Grant to do the first ever PFLC Songwriting Project. The choir received the grant, and they started the project with the goal to generate new, original music written and arranged by members of the choir. Under the guidance and leadership of local songwriter/musician Aby Wolf and Project Director Annette Schiebout, more than 20 PFLC songbirds met for three workshops between January and March of 2014 to write, create, learn new skills, and workshop song ideas together. Along the way the choir was joined by local artists Sarah White, Chastity Brown, Matt Latterell, and Dessa who graciously stopped by to share some great insights into the songwriting process.
The songwriting workshops produced ten new completed songs, written by PFLC ladies, ready to be sung by the choir. Aby Wolf and members of the choir collaborated to build harmonies, write lyrics and transcribe the pieces. On top of that, Aby Wolf composed and arranged an additional five songs, written for the PFLC to perform. The project has been a challenging and rewarding experience, and all involved are excited to share these new songs at Icehouse.
Also, we couldn't think of a better way to present an evening of music written and performed by strong women than to invite another local women's group, Anonymous Choir, to join us in a celebration of ONE MILLION BABES: DOUBLE CHOIR NIGHT! We'll also be joined by a lovely solo singer from Oakland, Ana Roxanne, who will warm up with room with her soothing minimal vibes.
