"Are we dead yet?" Environmentalism's Demise and Resurrection
Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus, authors of The Death of Environmentalism, are among a growing number of critics who believe that the environmental movement has become a relic and a failure-that environmentalism is "dead." They charge that environmentalism lacks new ideas, narrowly defines "environmental" problems, and relies almost exclusively on short sighted solutions aimed at pleasing donors rather than achieving real change. Is environmentalism ill-equipped to face the global challenges of our day? If environmentalism is "dead," what should take its place?
