Lauren Weedman's Well I Think You're Beautiful, Philadelphia
Actor, comedian, and writer Lauren Weedman will travel to Philadelphia to create a one-woman improv theater show "Well I Think You're beautiful Philadelphia" based on her experiences in the city. Praised for her "unflinchingly honest comic observation" (Seattle Weekly), Weedman is a series regular on HBO's hit new show Looking, which chronicles the struggles, loves, and lives of three gay men in San Francisco. Lauren Weedman has garnered a cult reputation for her quick wit and spitfire jokes through her acting and comedic roles, and will make her Philadelphia debut this summer.
Describing her work as political/absurdist/realist/physical-dance/situational and comedic, Weedman has recently created a series of city-themed improvisational comedy plays that have garnered rave reviews and sold-out audiences. Portland Center Stage first commissioned Weedman to write, direct, and star in "The People's Republic of Portland." The Oregonian described Weedman's performance as "relentlessly, rapidly funny." Continuing this format in Boise and Albuquerque, Weedman spends one week in the chosen destination while gathering inspiration from the people, places, and antics she encounters throughout her stay. Her next stop is Philadelphia! Beginning June 6th, Weedman will invite the audience to share in the hilarious, unpredictable, and touching joys of the City of Brotherly Love.
