Javier Ruibal in Concert
Javier Ruibal, self-taught composer, arranger, guitarist and vocalist is revered as a poet-musician who draws his inspiration from nature. His distinguished and unclassifiable style fuse indigenous sounds from the Spanish and Arab worlds, with additional influences of flamenco, jazz, salsa, meringue and Western pop.
Javier Ruibal offers an exquisite and rigorous commitment to integration in the social story that coexists. His songs are both beautiful and supportive, intimate and participatory, personal and universal.
-Jose Manuel Caballero Bonald

About Javier Ruibal
Javier Ruibal was raised in El Puerto de Santa María, province of Cadiz in southern Spain. Highly regarded for his vocal talents and for blending different music styles, such as flamenco, jazz and Maghreb music, he has successfully developed a unique and personal sound.

Lyrically, Ruibal has asserted influences that include Spanish poets Federico García Lorca and Rafael Alberti in addition to the Beatles. Having composed songs since the end of the 70s, Ruibal released his first album, called Duna, in 1983 and his international debut, Sahara, in 2003 via Riverboat Records. Sahara collected songs from his previous releases Contrabando (1997) and Las Damas Primeras (2001) and reasserted 'the charmer of Cádiz' as an important voice in Spanish music.

Ruibal has composed music for several other Spanish artists and famous singers such as Ana Belén and David Broza. He also appeared on stage together with artists Pablo Milanés, Joaquín Sabina and Carlos Cano. He frequently plays outside Spain; including Algeria, England, West Bank and New York. In 2007, he was awarded the Medal of Andalusia by the autonomous government of Andalusia and in 2009, he was chosen to give the opening address of the Cadix Carnaval celebration.
