Description
The Oregon Hungarian Communion of Friends ORMBK presents internationally acclaimed Hungarian pianist Endre Hegedűs. Hegedűs will perform works by Beethoven, Chopin, Bartók and Liszt in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution on Thursday, October 19th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Church in Portland Oregon. Hegedűs has toured throughout Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. This performance will be his first appearance in Portland.

Hegedűs' exceptional live performances distinguish him as a master of tonal beauty and clarity. International critics and audiences alike have hailed him as one of the most distinguished piano soloists in the world.

In 1980 he graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary as a pianist, both as a performing artist and teacher. ; Currently he is a professor of piano at the Franz Liszt University. Endre Hegedűs has received prizes at 10 international piano competitions, including first prizes at the Rina Sala Gallo in Monza and at the Rachmaninov International Piano Competition in Morcone, Italy, and second prizes at the International Piano Competition in Sydney, Australia and the Dino Ciani Competition of the Milan Scala in Italy. In 1999, the Steinway Center New York conferred on him the title "Steinway Artist". That same year he was chosen in England among the best 300 active pianists in the world. In 2000, he was awarded the Franz Liszt Prize by the Minister of Hungarian National Cultural Heritage.

Endre Hegedűs has recorded 21 CDs, featuring music by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Mjaskowsky and Schumann; he has performed 2200 public performances, and 19 hours of televised live concerts.
