Beginner Machine Sewing: 4 classes
Sewing is a learning-by-doing type of activity, and each day of this four part series will build on each other. By the end of this series you will be comfortable using a sewing machine, be able to choose the appropriate techniques and materials for a project, and will know how to manipulate fabric into fun and/or practical wearables for personal use. You can say 'I made it' every day of the week!
Session I - Go Go Gadget
Tuesday July 1st, 2014 - 7:00pm until 9:00pm
Learn how a sewing machine works; Machine maintenance; Stitches pressure and tension; key machine stitches.
Session II - Razzle, Dazzle with Ruffles, Darts, and more!
Tuesday July 8th, 2014 - 7:00pm until 9:00pm
Learn fabric manipulation through techniques such as: Darts, ruffles, seams and seam finishes. These techniques will help you sculpt and structure fabric to take the form you want. You will also learn about textile fibers and weaves.
Session III - Zipper and Button Battle
Tuesday July 15th, 2014 - 7:00pm until 9:00pm
Closures : Introduction to zipper applications, buttons and button holes, snaps, and other closures.
Session IV - Chi-town Chic!
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014 - 7:00pm until 9:00pm
Our final day: You will take what you have learned to make a project of your choice, such as a functional bag or pillow cover.
