Ellipsis Trio presents works by Dvorak and Ravel
Ellipsis Trio, the latest recipients of the 2013 Rosenbloom Career Grant, presents Dvorak's "Dumky" Piano Trio and Maurice Ravel's famous Piano Trio in A minor at Jamaica Plain Concerts.
Written just before moving to the United States, Dvorak's "Dumky" Trio is made up of 6 Dumkas, each a Slavic folk song. Every movement alternates between moods of sorrow and merriment. One of the great melodic writers of all time, Dvorak is in his element, escaping the confines of sonata form to freely spin his dark and iconic melodies.
Ravel's Trio uses every sound the violin, cello and piano can create to conjure a vividly-colored and richly impressionistic sound world. Its movements based on Basque dances and Balinese poetry culminate in an incredibly exciting and satisfying finale that heralds Ravel's anticipation of The Great War.
These two pillars of chamber music repertoire, performed by the dynamic young members of the Ellipsis Trio explore two composers' love of folk melodies. Come for distinguished music making by the Ellipsis Trio and stay for a lively reception afterwards.
