Mount Baker World Music Festival - Hangucha Garinagu
A unique opportunity to experience a dynamic, inspired, and enlightening performance with music and dance of the fascinating Garifuna culture a mix of the indigenous people of the Caribbean, and Africans that resisted slavery in the 1600s. Their own language, own cuisine, dance, culture.
Artistic Director, Ricardo Guity, who began his career at age 10 as a prodigy to the renowned Master Drummer, Babatunde Olatunji, is accomplished in a wide array of musical genres, from the Latino styles of salsa, merengue, and cumbia, to pop, rock, reggae, and the blues. A key player in developing Punta Rock, an internationally acclaimed contemporized version of Garifuna rhythms; he has worked along side many other greats such as Youssou N'Dour, Ibrahima Camara, Celia Cruz, and more.
